Well looks like they DID listen. I see people registered from South Africa, and now when registering, it no longer requires a location. WOOOO-HOOOO!!

Glad you guys aren't getting the boot.... ;)

It would appear that silence is the only answer I'm going to get.

Well I also have a way around that. If you have a friend in the US, they can create a yahoo account and you just sign in through it....but you're probably right about being able to detect through the computer. I've just been trying to beat the system... ]:)

Well, someone in another thread did suggest we all use the address of the White House! ;) The thing is that my email address is a .co.uk one, which is a bit of a giveaway; plus I think there are other ways of telling from your computer which country you're in.

I am just hanging on here to see if I can get any answers to my questions, really. The Hornblower community flourishes in other places on the Net and there are no new shows - we all own the DVDs of the past ones and discuss those. I guess if A&E want their club to reflect their current viewing, Hornblower fans are not going to have a place here and the recent announcement seems to have put an end to what little life there was left in the community here. Their making of quality shows is a thing of the past and I think we all feel insulted at people being excluded from their club because of where we live.

Nice talking to you, jessiegirl. All the best.

I agree!! This new "CLUB" deal is rediculous!! To exclude many who have made these boards what they are, is beyond me. They state many times about the great wonderful members..blah blah blah, however many of them are being basically tossed off to the side in lieu of this exclusive club. Here's what a lot of us are doing to try and keep our friends who are non-US/Canada residents...we American/Canadian's are providing addresses for those who need them to register with the club. If that don't work I say we all protest these boards...

I've been here for a while (lurking long before I registered) and it's only in the past few weeks I've seen an A&E administrator say anything, so I guess I should be grateful you are here. Thank you.

However, I find your posts really unclear and I don't think I've ever seen you answer a direct question.

For instance, what do you mean when you say you'll be building a community from the threads that members have created since you began thinking about the board upgrade? At what point did you begin thinking? Does this mean we will lose all but the most recent threads in our communities?

And you keep telling us that when the boards upgrade we will need to be registered members of the A&E Club if we want to post. We have got that message. Thank you. What you won't tell us, despite being asked any number of times, is whether it really is the case that the Club is only open to people in the US and Canada, and why you have made that rule.

It's probably too late for most people anyway. What little life there was left in the Hornblower board has all but disappeared - either because we are non US/Canadians who know we are no longer welcome here or we are from the US or Canada but have left in protest at the exclusion of our friends.

I am a Brit and not really sure why I'm still here - just hanging around occasionally while I can, for old time's sake, I suppose.

I will check back here for an answer but I don't really expect one.

Fmu

P S I'm glad that you at A&E are excited about your club. It seems to me you're the only people who are.

To "Admin AE:"

I regret that I must agree with the poster above who refuses to register because of your changed programming. As a participant of your online community since May 1999, I am offended by your exclusion of persons of other nationalities beyond the US and Canada, with some of whom I have enjoyed a long correspondence, nor will I support the continued degradation of what was once a respected and innovative network for the current trailer-park style of programming you offer. Once this "change" takes place, I must regretfully stop participating. I only wish I could believe that anyone at your...er...organization...cared what your former audience thinks.

Jill, maybe someone has already registered at the club with your name. This would cause you not to be able to keep it. Hope this helps.

maybe they are just collecting addresses?

However, please note that as of February 15, 2006, your current Username and Password will become invalid, and you will need to become a registered A&E Club member to log in to the boards

Some people say they were able to keep their current usernames when signing up for the new A&E Club, however for some reason I was not. Is there a technical reason why it didn't permit me?

Hey hamish and Tellwriterall - I just read this on A&E:

A&E Communities
"Television shows come and go; even great ones. People have gathered around these shows, at first posting a question or a comment about a particular show that grabbed their interest. As time goes on, discussions have built around the shows, but then as members begin to connect with each other topics start to broaden into interesting glimpses of the lives of the posters. People connect with people and a community is born. These A&E Community discussions are dedicated to those people who have made a home here posting about the shows and their lives. A&E Supports the individuals and the discussions they call home. We encourage you to continue to post about these shows, to connect with one another and to explore all the A&E
