OMG!!! I watched this episode this past week. I DVR these each week and catch up on weekends. I have not been able to stop thinking of this episode. As I am watching I was mortified that any human would just run over someone for looking different. When I heard the verdict I felt physically like I was going to throw up! I cant believe that a jury would find a act like that so minor as 10 yrs probation! I am glad Dustin screwed up and had to serve at least 8 yrs in jail, should have been 80 years! What a screwed up town Amarillo was, may still be. Dustin is now out of jail and living but Brian is not, the suffering he caused to the Deneke's and his own family is unacceptable! Brian, enjoy paradise, you will never see Dustin there!

i have seen this episode a couple times, and each time i cried so hard. as a punker myself and the mother of 2 punkers, it was especially upsetting. we live in iowa, and the prejudice of this type is not confined to texas, although it is the armpit of america. this kind of behavior will never stop, as long as the jocks are catered to in the school systems. they are coddled and patted on the heads by the administers and the parents, and told its ok to harrass people like brian deneke because they look and dress different. my kids dress in black and my daughter has pink hair. she is my ray of light at the end of the day and is one of the nicest and most compassionate people ive known, yet has come home from school bruised from being pushed against the lockers by the jock set. she doesnt drink, do drugs or stay out late, maintains a B average, yet when i complained to school officials, all i was able to garner from the conversations was that it was her fault for looking this way. WHEN IS THIS CRAP GOING TO STOP?????? as a mom, i would have her date a kid like brian any day over a kid like that ass dustin camp.

I saw the show during the daytime. I'd never seen nor heard of it myself until I stumbled upon it. If you really like the show, you should probably keep up with the A&E site. My two cents' worth.

Sometimes when someone walks, you accept that there was reasonable doubt. This wasn't one of those shows, though.

This sounds terrible! What is the name of this episode and when did it air? They usually replay them on the weekends, maybe I can catch it then.

I just saw this episode today.

I've always thought negatively about Amarillo, though admittedly for no really good reason. My first experience was when a waitress at a Red Lobster dropped food on me over 20 years ago (hey, allow me my petty "issues") and didn't seem nearly as contrite or mortified as I thought she should. Then, there are the memories of the painfully mind-numbing drive from Amarillo to Decatur, enroute to Dallas or New Mexico (you take 287 and turn left at Amarillo and in no time, there'll be scenery and blue skies...) I've done that three times in both directions.

Finally, today, I found a better (though still not all that good) reason to dislike that city! ;)

On a serious note, the real tragedy and shame is that this didn't occur in the 70s or 80s, but fairly recently. This was perhaps the most unsatisfying City Confidential episode I've seen to date. No slam on A&E but of the crime and the "justice".

I totally agree aerofan63! The most outrageous statement in the whole episode was at the end. When Brady Clark asked some jurors who just gave a slap on the wrist to Dustin Camp for brutally murdering Brian Deneke in cold blood. Not even one day in jail, just 10 years probation with an andle braclet. He asked what would have happened if one of the punk rockers had killed jock Dustin Camp in the same way, what would have happened then? A juror stated "the death penalty"! Is anyone else totally outraged by this? Amarillo, TX should be ashamed of themselves, I for one am sorry this city is in the United States of America! What a huge miscarraige of Justice when the evidence was overwhelming (30 witnesses) of first degree murder. When you hit someone with a car and then stop, it could be considered accidental, but then back up twice and laugh at the sound of Brian Deneke's skull being crushed under the car at the curb. Dustin Camp deserved the death penalty!

What were these people thinking?????? How could they NOT find this guy guilty of murder????? Why wasn't there another trial, or why didnt the judge overturn the verdict to serve justice in a despicable hate crime where an innocent life was visciously taken???????? I don't get it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
