You are not alone in admiring PG's performance in Island at War. There were quite a few of us that found ourselves gushing him over at horatians. sotl

"Island at War" made my entire winter up here bearable. Until I discovered HH, it was my favorite series of all time, and much of that due to Glenister's performance. He was magnificent, and there is also a groundswell out there asking for more, just like with HH. Had I seen PG first in HH I would not have been so taken with him, but as a Nazi Colonel he was suave, urbane and very handsome, and actually quite decent. It is an excellent production; if you have not seen it I highly recommend it...Julie

I finally got around to watching this series. 'Can hardly believe I managed to get all episodes in order on the same tape, instead of spread out over several tapes, misplaced here and there. Anyhow, what a sobering movie. I agree that Philip was very good. Lots of good acting all round. Noddy The pain of self-discipline is less than the pain of regret.

I have watched the complete series, and if it doesn't boost Mr. Glenister's career significantly there's no justice. He was absolutely superb.

I caught the tail end of it. I thought it was very thought provoking and PG looked very good, but all I can say is Oy!! Very serious stuff there!

I got the first part of five and he was very good in his part as a German Commander in charge of his group of soldiers. Chilling dialogue between him and an Englishman that I found very disturbing at the beach scene. I am hoping the other 4 parts are as well done. marymak

This isn't much notice, but I just saw that Philip Glenister is in a multi-part series on PBS starting tonight on Masterpiece Theatre. It's called "Island at WAr." The pain of self-discipline is less than the pain of regret.
