I was referring about Zacharias Moussaoui (sp?), one of the 9/11 conspirators. Before you do your knee jerk reaction and assume that I was talking Saddam Hussein, it may behoove you to ask to whom I am referring to rather than jump to a rash conclusion about me and my allegiances.

If you are talking about having Saddam in custody, there never was any proof that Iraq had anything to do with 911. The gullible public fell for the Weapons of Mass Destruction lies and attacked a country that was no threat to the United States. Wake up and see the facts. I imagine bushie saying, "Osama Bin who?"

As an Amerasian (1/2 Thai) and the son of a USAF officer/B-52 pilot with served with honor in Vietnam, I am offended that you imply that my father is a war criminal for his honorable service and that you claim to be the voice of all "offended" Asian Americans.

I seriously doubt some of my Vietnamese buddies back in the old OC (Orange County CA for you non-locals :)) would agree that the VietCong and Ho Chi Minh were the most benevolent of folk. What offends me is your overwhelming desire to speak for all Asian Americans without doing your research on what was really going on there (and in some cases still is going on) and the atrocities that were committed in that region after the Americans left. You think communism was that great for SE Asia? Talk to my mother who grew up in Northern Thailand and ask her how the Vietnamese, Lao, and Cambodian refugees in the border refugee camps felt about their "tolerant" communist regimes. I guarantee you they ain't exactly giving the VietMinh, the Pathet Lao, and the Khmer Rogue a Roger Ebert "two thumbs up."

Guess what? Foreigners did attack our country. What did you think happened on September 11th, 2001? And we have one of the bastards in custody right now!

Speaking for myself as an Asian American, I for sure don't need your help or your phony advocacy. Tell you what. I will make a batch of my mother's secret recipe Gaeng Phet Pet (Roasted Duck in Red Curry for my friends who need an English to Thai translation) If you can eat the whole thing without a) breaking a sweat and b)screaming like a little baby because your taste buds will probably cease to exist due to the intense heat, then I will let you be the spokesperson for me because after all I can't seem to speak for myself because I am a helpless Asian. And yes, I'll even let you eat it with white rice.

Now that I am done with my rant, I am now craving Thai food. I hate it when I do that! :)

Was not a war of invasion, LOL! North Vietnam under Ho Chi Min was an oppressive regime. The South Vietnamise certainly invited us there after the French were defeated Diem Bien Phu. You need to read a little history! Yes, we were employing the Domino Effect Theory; however, communism wasn't the world's answer to freedom. Communism asks people to NOT strive to change their economic/class status. I'm sure the world would be a better place under a Stalinistic styled regimes. Freedom (you must remember) "AIN'T free. It always begins in every country with a few standing against many, and then asking for help from those who dream the same dream from abroad. (Think about how the colonies were aided by the French and then how the favor was repaid in 1789. Think about Oliver Cromwell and Japan after WWII. Japan from an economic standpoint can be argued won the war.) - In the end they achieved global prominence, as practically all democracies and republics have achieved since our great experiment began in 1775. If you find a better system...PLEASE RUN FOR OFFICE IN WHAT EVER COUNTRY WILL LISTEN. Our system doesn't claim to be perfect but it is flexible to incorporate CHANGE. Radical change, however, is easily done.

John McCain should be president. Instead, we have a powerful administration propelled by multi-national corporations, drug companies and others that have taken our government away from the people.

Now, they want their greedy hands on Social Security monies.

Of course you were told you were going there to protect the people. The sad thing is when people realized it was not a good war and that innocent Asians were being killed and tortured, the wrong group got the blunt of it - the brave soldiers that were sent there.

War hurts everyone. It should not be taken as a measure to protect special interests. War should only be declared when we have been attacked or another country has been attacked. The reason being: It is cruel and inhuman to participants and bystanders.

we all have theories about what the real reason for that war was but for most of us who went i can tell you that most believed when we departed for asia that we were going to help the people there. after being incountry, we were mostly concerned about our unit and unable to comprehend the big picture and why our govt had sent us there. that along with the homecoming, is why so many scars remain today. i do know that the nation's best went and had good intentions. an interesting statistic is that over 2500 sons of senators and congressmen came eligible during that war. while they voted to continue the war they only sent 1 son. the others all found a way to keep their boys home.

I think you have a very valid point. However, this movie is about John McCain. I, for one, believe him. He is one of the few sane men in the republican party. The Vietnam war was a war of invasion and it was wrong. I still think that John McCain is a good man. I get angry when i hear the cowardly republicans smearing him.

Faith of My Fathers - Offensive to Asian Americans

Jun 2, 2005 1:25 AM
How many more movies will be written, produced, directed, financed, and marketed for a white American audience glorifying white American boys traveling half way around the world to kill innocent Asian men, women, and children!

I am extremely offended by this movie. I think it says a lot about 'white america' that they can produce and air a movie that glorifies the heroism and the 'oh-so-nobel' qualities of our American soldiers even as they were indiscriminately bombing villages and the innocent men, women, and children who lived in them.

You and I know damn well that if foreigners were dropping bombs on our towns and cities and were captured while doing so that we wouldn't be welcoming them in our houses with open arms if we had managed to shoot one of them down! We would, most likely, as we did with the Taliban, kill as many of those bastards as we possibly could!

I wish someone would make a movie about the vietnam war from the view point of the vietnamese!
