I noticed something too in the film in a flashback sequence where John McCain's father (Scott Glenn)was giving a toast to his deceased father and he had the Republic of Vietnam campaign medal on his uniform. Now correct me if I am wrong but didn't John Mc Cain's grandfather die before the start of US operations in Vietnam?

Or do I need to watch it again because my eyesight is bad? :)

Thank God for TiVo.

Hollywood could replicate any ship...feed a series of photos to a computer then sit back, and wait for the 3-D version to appear...just like Spielberg did it with T. Rex.

Reminds me of Hollywood Air Force movies that show an F-4 take-off, but a C-47 landing. Then, there is the long hair, and the scrambled service ribbons.

McCain went from the Forrestal to the Oriskany, we WERE informed and given a BRIGHT RED PAMPLHET about WE WOULD NOT HAVE THIS HAPPEN ON FORRESTAL.. and inside was the TIME article. I read it carefully, it was given to us at the end of Apr 67 as we got underway. The night before... JULY 28... 67 we were ORDERED to take aboard HIGHLY UNSTABLE THOUSAND POUNDERS...1935 VINTAGE _ our pylons would hold max 500 pounders. I went to the flight deck PREPARED for DISASTER. Did McCain KNOW... YES... ANY PILOT WOULD KNOW WHAT IS UNDER HIS WING. We blew.... he flew....HOW DOES THAT MAKE HIM A HERO??????????

This was by no means a big budget film. Since the USS Oriskany was sold for scrap 10 years ago, it would have been tough to get decent footage. A&E used 2 CVs: the USS Forrestal, CV-59, and the USS Enterprise, CVN-65. At least McCain did at one time fly from the Forrestal; and when the Enterprise was used in the movie, they were careful to avoid showing her unique island.

Other innacuracies? That wasn't the U.S. Naval Academy and that wasn't Trader John's.

well stated, hyped as a true story, not too impressive when they can't even get the ship right. I served on the Oriskany, and I am offended by this blatent inaccuracy. I wonder what other parts of the story are false?

USS ORISKANY CVA-34 Inaccuracy

USS ORISKANY CVA-34, a veteran of many Korean and Vietnam combat tours is the carrier Senator McCain flew off of when shot down - not USS ENTERPRISE as depicted in the show.

As a two tour Vietnam veteran and a veteran of the ship John McCain was serving on when shot down, I was very disappointed to see the historical inaccuracy.

With all of today's film technology, it shouldn't have been allowed to occur.
