Wow. Bob W you have no clue what you are talking about. And WW2 buff, you're not a buff at all. Here are the facts: 1. America didn't sit on the sideline. Ever hear of the Lend-Lease Act? Or the US fighter pilots who went to Britain to fight before D-Day? 2. Stalin was begging the US to enter the war alongside Britain to establish a second front to help defeat Germany. 3. The war could not have been won without the industrial output of the US and the overwhelming air superiority of the US Army Air Force.

I agree with what FrankT said. As one Russian historian remarked about the contributions of the Allies in World War II: Britain provided the time. America provided the goods. Russia provided the blood.

You're not REALLY going to go there, are you??? It is obvious that the first 2 years of the war, when Britain stood alone, were nothing short of heroic and inspiring. In my view, there was no hero of this century greater than Winston Churchill. However, it is equally obvious that American manpower and economic might shifted the balance toward an allied victory...and let's also not forget the massive Red Army in the east. There WAS no greater alliance...and IS no greater alliance...than that of the United States and the United Kingdom.

Amazing how Ike and his staff could be watching a movie of Richard III with Laurence Olivier in 1944, that wasn't made until 1955. Oh well, the Yanks think they won the war too, when in fact they sat on the sidelines for the first two years while others did the fighting for them.
