As a vet I was put off by having to watch Alec Baldwin fake a concern and caring about D-Day. My thoughts about The History Channel and it's affiliates have changed greatly. The idea of such an "un-american" even speaking of the heroes of that day was disturbing to say the least and enough to cause me to re-think watching your shows in the future.

This really has nothing to do with the show on Ike, but is about the History Channel using Alec Baldwin as a spokesman introducing some of their D-Day documentaries. Could they have picked someone more un-American to be a spokesman? He is the one that said that he would move to another country if Bush was elected. I don't care whether or not you like the president, if you are a true American, you support the President while he is in office. Do you think that all the soldiers that have fought and died for this country liked their president. I doubt it. But still, they did as they were told by their Commander in Chief. All the vets that I have mentioned this too have been appalled that Alec Baldwin was used by the History Channel. Yes, I know that there is free speech in this country, but I still feel the same.

we do have a man with the moral character to lead this nation, in this time of war. his name is President George W Bush, God has found favor in this man, in this time, in our nations history, just as he did with President Lincoln,to lead the nation through the Civil War.

You made an excellent point. I don't remember Ike very well...I'm a vietnam vet generation...now I have a better appreciation of the MAN who made the general. Every movie has it's flaws, but I felt overwhelming empathy with Ike as he struggled to decide when to give the orders to go. Thought the acting was excellent...there have been other posts about accuracy...does it matter if Patton didn't say the exact works or didn't hug Ike? What matters is the character of Patton...thinking he was pulling one on Ike... Anyway, as a retired army wife, I welcome you home and pray that somewhere in the craziness of the war we are presently in, a man like Ike will emerge.

IKE is excellent, it gives you an appreciation for the historic diplomatic feat he pulled off in addition to the strategical genius of the D-Day offensive. I like Ike, it's a wonderful tribute to all who served our country during World War II. America remains the envy of the world because of them and I'm thankful that they finally have a memorial in Washington DC.

Richard, I agree, the human side of the story was very well presented. I like the program a lot. I enjoyed "The Crossing" earlier and this was 10 times better. BTW, Welcome Home Richard, and God bless you.

One Veteran's Perspective

I returned last month from 1 year in Iraq and Kuwait. I was amused with some of the negative comments re historical accuracy, uniforms, Ike's cigarette smoking, etc, in the Discussions. The MOST important aspect of any war is - Will my son/daughter come home? All else is secondary. A&E and Selleck did an outstanding job in portraying this agony and putting war in perspective. Thanks much.
