I admit that I was very impressed with Tom Selleck's performance, but I certainly hope that this was not the true "Ike". The"essence" of the Eisenhower you knew does not seem like the "Ike" that was projected through t.v. and news media. Tom's portrayal is very sensitive, very touching, but very soft. I suspect that Ike was a lot more tough and hardened than the Ike of the A&E film rendition.

But I liked Tom who I could tell was doing his darndest to make us all like "Ike".

I recall an Eisenhower a lot more pungent, crusty, and iron. But you can correct me if I am wrong.

This is the finest program A&E has ever aired (with the possible exception of NERO WOLFE).

Tom Selleck was perfect for the role. Rather than the usual "impersonation of Ike" I had expected, Selleck brought a sensitive "essence of Eisenhower" to his performance. I instantly recognized the Eisenhower I knew in my youth.
