-i agree that josephine was a strong woman, but the habits and standards of the courtly french greatly depended on contacts and liasons, both initmate and political- perhaps there were parts of the program that portrayed that without being so distinct in representation- it is said that was one of the reasons napoleon felt so isolated in egypt, as he heard whispers and words of his wife making "contacts" and friends in the french court and parisian scene whilst he was away- -as i beleive danton explained in a previous post, the reason for his annulment to josephine revolved around his desire for a legitmate male heir and it was deemed that she, josephine, was past childbearing age and strong pressure was put upon napoleon to marry again someone for a political alliance and produce an heir through that union- -i am unsure about the conditions concerning his last dying words- maybe others have information thanks, kelly

I think the movie failed miserably when it came to the relationship between Napoleon and Josephine and Josephine alone. I mean, she didn't even want to marry him at first, she didn't love him at first! Then she became his "lucky star" and some one he came to for advice and comfort. They did not even attempt to convey her anger at Napoleon for taking mistresses! She wasn't the kind of woman to just stand by as her husband slept around. She was a much stronger woman than they showed. Also, weren't Napoleon's last words of his Josephine? What did he even say in the movie before he died? Ok that's my rant.
