Re: Angela Gots in Nadia really deserves an Emmy

I have just posted my own review of the Nadia episode on the IMDB board for Angela Gots.

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0331854/board/edit/134049928

Friends of Patrick and Travis and Angela and The Beast series itself might like to consider posting their comments all over IMDB!

Just about every producer, director, actor and agent in show-business checks out IMDB now and then and some follow it religiously.

I think our comments would have a lot more impact there than comments posted here which, while very nice to read, do tend to be preaching to the choir!

Over there, new people can be convinced that this show and its people were quite something.

Please post the IMDB link here if you do post over there?

One of the funny scenes is her hugging of Patrick and his not knowing where to look. That really made me laugh and it took two great actors to get that one just right.

And the two DVDs you recommended have now risen to the top of my to-watch pile! Stay tuned...

You can hijack all threads if you nicely compliment Angela! I wasnt even thinking hijacking though, I just wanted to read someone speak up for her nicely and I knew you would. B-)

I am conscious that this site is for the whole Beast, and a lot of creative people who dont yet have either fame or fortune have really given a lot and gambled a lot to make this compelling show a success. So I have complimented Patrick a lot, but also Travis, and the creative team, and the management of A&E, and of course there should be more.

Regarding Angela, I know eastern Europe and Russia well and have worked in almost all countries. There really are women like Nadia FOR REAL there as prostitution is the one occupation in some places that is available to them.

So seeing Angela play that part so authentically hit home very hard for me. And I have looked at her other work and her range is quite astonishing. Actually I had seen her in House MD earlier, but had no idea it was the same actress.

She has two things in common with Patrick - ballerina mother/ballet training, and great acting - but she hasn't had the breaks she deserves, and she is capable of so much more.

So I am doing my small part here to hopefully help her along. Several others here have said nice things already, and the same on IMDB, so one of the good things of this whole affair might be Angela's emergence.

The scene on the floor with the talk about the devil is the one that for some reason gets to me the most. But they are all very fine and several are very funny.

Peter

I was just commenting on what was said. Didn't mean to hijack a thread.

I loved the episode with Angela. She was as you stated....excellent and I wish the entertainment world would look to some of the cable networks at emmy time. She should be considered...for sure.

Yes...I have followed Patrick's career for years. I feel he's a good guy that has been dealt a crappy hand in dealing with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Why is it that cancer always targets the good guys?

Sure, being a woman I always thought he was HOT...but it's more than that. He's one of the few actors I know of that has been with the same woman for almost 34 years...unheard of by Hollywood standards. That is the ultimate sexy to me. Patrick and Lisa are very well known to be the ultimate married couple. True soulmates in every sense of the word.

Dirty Dancing is definitely a favorite of mine, of course. It's the ultimate chick flick, but my all time favorite movie of his is City of Joy, and believe me, I've seen them all, even some of his lesser known movies no one has ever heard of. City of Joy gets to me every time I decide to watch it. It is such an engrossing movie. When you finally get around to watching it, I'd love to hear your opinion of it. If you enjoy ballet as much as you stated earlier, I know you will enjoy One Last Dance. Patrick and Lisa dance so incredibly beautifully in that movie, I cry.. Alright...I've got to stop my gushing...sorry. I get carried away.

Yes, Dirty Dancing was filmed in North Carolina and Virginia, even though it was supposed to be the Catskills of New York.

You are always informative preciousangelgirl and this about Lisa was an interesting fact to know. Both clearly have a great deal of talent.

Your boosting of Patrick here is important (though a good word for Angela on this thread would be nice too! :^O ) and you are doing a great job.

I have two of Patrick's movies to watch thanks to you and both look pretty good at first glance.

Are you from way back a Dirty Dancing fan? I always thought that movie was shot in/took place in the southern Catskills (which I know quite well, a nice area) so I was surprised to see the locations were all down in western Virginia.

Lisa is no stranger to directing. She has done so on many occasion.

I look forward to seeing this episode knowing Lisa was right there with her hubby.

Hi everyone:

This Thursday's episode (My Brother's Keeper) is the one directed by Lisa Niemi, Patrick's wife, that lisaworcma posted about here earlier.

Lisa had been on the set throughout the shooting of all the episodes and the producers thought it was a natural to ask her to direct one.

Tonight: The Walk-In. Danabs was correct on this thread last Sunday and TV Guide has changed its entries for 10 and 11 pm tonight and the wee hours of tomorrow to read: Episode 9 The Walk-In.

Might be interesting to have a thread here on each episode. The Nadia thread is doing well. B-)

Yes...I just read the latest victim of this dreadful disease is Don Imus.

Loved seeing those pictures of Patrick in the various shots through his career years. The man was extremely fit....makes me wonder how someone who was so vital can waste away the way he is with this horrific disease.

You want to see him in a little known, but absolutely wonderful movie? Pick up City of Joy. To me that was his best performance ever. He plays a doctor who goes to the slums of India. Next time you rent a movie...pick up City of Joy. Best movie ever.

Peter....Thank you for the links!! Makes me so sad to see this once very vital man sooo sick.

I saw those recent pictures over the weekend. It breaks my heart to see them. Even watching the show, I notice how thin he is. He was always the picture of health....extremely fit.

Damn cancer. Is it me or does it seem that more and more people all the time are coming down with this dreadful disease?

The gallery of his pictures were great. Thanks for sharing them. Love #10....Keeping Mum was a great movie...

New not-very-happy photos of Patrick out shopping in LA here:

http://tinyurl.com/au6n4y

However I'm told that chemo and radiation (seeding - radioactive pellets) can do that to a person while actually improving their shot at recovery.

The piece also says Patrick has completed the first full Beast series and is now talking about doing another.

Added: to cheer everyone back up again, some of the best shots of Patrick are here.

I think the chief writer Vincent Angell's is the main voice here in the december 2008 writers' interview, the voice which closes the interview.

http://www.aetv.com/the-beast/writers-interview/

[Edited to add] I now read that Vincent and William Rothko are credited with actually coming up with and creating the show. There's a take on their vision in this (good) review:

http://eclipsemagazine.com/television/7717/

Quote:

Fortunately, series creators Vincent Angell and William L. Rothko aren’t interested in the standard tropes of the genre. Instead, they set up a selection of standard characters and play with their motivations and situations. The result is a smarter, darker show than you’d expect on basic cable – and an entertainment that would be more engrossing than most even without Swayze. With him, though, the show has serious heft.

Chriscat9, it appears you're correct, 13 episodes. The Wikipedia entry lists 11 named and 2 unnamed episodes.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Beast_(2009_TV_series)

The entry appears to be about a month behind the curve. Different directors are listed for each but the first 2 episodes.

Vincent Angell is listed as lead writer for all but one of the episodes. Here is Vincent Angell's entry on the IMDB website.

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0029646/

Rather amazingly, he has been really busy for the past 10 years as an actor, but The Beast in the first filmed writing he has ever done.

You have to hand it to the guy.
