I couldn't agree with you more KimberleyT. Even though I don't live in Detroit or Michigan for that matter, I have great respect and admiration for the Detroit Police Department. I especially think SRT and the Homicide squad do a wonderful job. They do serve and protect well. I thank God that these great men and women are here to help us. They have a hard job and is very dangerous, not to mention stressful and they deserve all the thanks and respect that they deserve. It's great to see so many people care about them and give them praise for what they do. Thanks for giving us a sneak peek into what they truly do. And thanks to anyar for giving us some idea of what these guys do. I really appreciate it. You guys take care and have a great day. I would also like to thank the many police officers out that serve and protect us all over the nation. I really appreciate what you do and have to go through. Thank You!! Be safe and careful out there!! -- ~swr06~ :0

I work at a police department in a surrounding community of Detroit. Law enforcement work very hard to fight crime; however, there is more criminals out there than fighters. The men and women of Detroit and communities neighboring it, work very very hard and put their lives on the line each day to keep us all safe. Many people down talk and degrade officers; however, one hour with no policing and see how much they will appreciate them. Their motto is to Protect and Serve and that they do with dignity, bravery and committment. Keep up the good work. -- Kimberly

Hello anyar. Thank You. It's great to hear from you again. I just think the homicide detectives should have more support and respect then they receive. I am very pro law enforcement. I hope the detectives know that I appreciate all their work. Keep your head up and continue to do the hard work. I look forward to seeing more of Detroit. You guys should be featured more in the show. I agree with you, anyar. A&E doesn't know what they are missing, not featuring these wonderful and hard working detectives from Detroit. I hope things are looking up for you and your boyfriend. Hang in there and I hope things get better for the city of Detroit. I think it's great that we have things in common. I lived in Michigan for a short while. I visited Michigan a couple of times. I don't think I have ever been to Detroit. It looks like a great city. There is nothing wrong with having pride for the city you live in. I look forward to hearing more from you. Take care both of you. Have a great day. -- ~swr06~ :0

Thanks, Frenchtoile. Detroit is also one of my favorites because I was born, raised and bred here. I guess because I live here, I get to see the really wonderful things about Detroit that so many never hear about -- usually it's the negative that is always portrayed in the media. By the way...love the username, "frenchtoile". Any french heritage? Mine is cajun/creole. My family originated from Louisiana. -- “It takes a deep commitment to change, and an even deeper commitment to grow"

Your Welcome anyar. Any time. I am sorry that the economic situation is so bad in Detroit. That is so horrible. I hope in time the economy will get better so not so many people will be without a job. Especially for the police officers. It's got to be really hard not to have enough resources to do their job properly. I agree that Detroit police officers are hard-working. I can see why they are over-worked with the budget being so bad. The Detroit Homicide detectives do a great job with what they have. I can only hope in the future that it gets better. I hope Detroit gets more jobs and more money for the city. I wish the best of luck to you and your boyfriend. And of course to the rest of his fellow officers, only the very best. I really don't like it when people say bad things about police officers in general. They don't get enough respect and credit that they do. It is a hard job and I think they deserve some gratitude for what they do. A simple thank you to them would be nice. The public doesn't know what they go through on a daily basis. Until you walk in their shoes. You don't know anything. I look forward to watching more episodes with Detroit Homicide. They do a wonderful job and keep up the great work. Thank You. Please stay safe out there. -- ~swr06~ :0

Detroit is my favorite of the cities to watch. I think they do a great job, and I'm sure the citizens appreciate all their hard work. My family is from Michigan originally, although I've never lived there. I have visited numerous times, and Detroit is my favorite city in the country. To each his own, I guess. -- Edited by frenchtoile at 07/31/2007 7:18 AM

Thank you for your comment,swr06. I will be sure to share your comment with the wonderful men/women at the Detroit Homocide Division. They have a very rough job, which especially makes it much more difficult with our economy. There are so many layoffs with the automotive industry which causes a trickling effect to other industries/companies throughout Michigan. Right now, Michigan has one of the highest unemployment rates, which is causing crime to continually rise. I'm an I.T. Project Manager with a strong SDLC, ITIL and SDP21 methodology skill set. I, too, am unable to find permanent employment in Michigan, but I do find periodic consulting jobs that keep me going. As a result of our economy, this has caused many police officers to lose jobs, placing additional burden and stress on the officers that we currently have. It's very sad that many of the experienced Homocide Detectives that are close to retirement intend to retire early, leaving our police department with relatively inexperienced detectives. Again, your comments are very much appreciated. Knowing that there are people like you, that appreciate police officers, is what encourages them to keep going. I have watched a few episodes with Detroit Homicide. I think they do a good job. I don't have a problem with them. All homicide detectives from all the cities do a great job and they are all interesting to me. I respect any police officer and detective. They have a hard job and it isn't really appreciated. I wish police officers in general were treated more with respect. We have them to thank because our streets are safer and I can sleep better at night. It is sad that our police departments are getting cut back because police officers/detectives are very important. I have seen two different departments of the Detroit Police work. SRT and homicide. They don't get the credit that they deserve. Both departments are very important and they have my deepest respect. You must be very proud of your boyfriend. I am sure that he does the best he can under the circumstances. I can only imagine that the detectives are frustrated at not being able to have proper equipment or technology to help solve the cases. Or not having enough man power to give each case the proper attention it needs. I think with what they do have, they do a pretty good job. I think why so many people complain about Detroit Homicide and the rest of the police department is because they don't really know the situation. And maybe some of it is the way the editing is. I know that what I see is part of what's going on. We don't get to see everything the detectives do. So, I think this is what makes people mad. You have to remember that we are only seeing half of what the detectives do to get leads or get information out about the suspects or witnesses. There are hours and hours of footage that we don't get to see. The producers have to condense the footage down to an hour. That is tough, too. So people don't say the detectives from so and so didn't do any work before they head home. It's not true and they work their butts off. They work for the families of the victims and the victim. To say that they don't care getting some closure for the families, is stupid. They do care and because some police departments don't have enough money then others, doesn't mean they slack off. Not all cities or towns have the support and budget to give all the equipment and hours for the different departments. And not to mention that the public doesn't like the police either. All of this factors in with why some homicides don't get solved. It sucks big time for not only the police, but the families that have been affected by murder and crime. I am going to say this: not all police officers are bad. Just because there are some bad apples all over the world, there are a lot of good, decent and hard working police and detectives out there. There are many on the Detroit Police Department. Just like there are plenty of good, decent and hard working detectives/police in Dallas, Miami, Memphis, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Kansas City, MO, Kansas City, Kansas, Philly, Cincinnati, ect. I think I remember that those are all the cities that have been featured in The First 48. Remember not all cases are solved in the first 48 hours. Sometimes it takes weeks, months or years to arrest the suspects and sometimes a case doesn't get solved at all. That is sad and everyone is affected by it. Remember, what you see is not always as it seems. Try to consider this next it seems like any work didn't get done. Homicide detectives are humans after all. They have feelings and have the same problems that we do. Detectives need sleep like the rest of us. They can only go so long without sleep. I am sure that their families would like to see them, too. If only for a few hours. Detectives make a lot of sacrifices. Police in general make a lot of sacrifices. The ultimate sacrifice is death. To me they are heroes. In closing, I hope someday that the Detroit Police Department and the rest of law enforcement get enough money for all that they need. I hope the city and the citizens of Detroit see how wonderful, dedicated and hard working police officers they have. They deserve the best. Anyar, give my best to your boyfriend. His and his fellow detectives have my respect and well wishes. I wish the best of luck to all homicide and police officers out there. Thank you so much for your work. Be proud of what you accomplished. It is a great honor to be a police officers. I will always support any police officer and homicide detective. Please stay safe out there. -- ~swr06~ :0 -- Edited by swr06 at 07/24/2007 9:27 PM -- Edited by swr06 at 07/24/2007 9:43 PM

I love "First 48 Hours" because I find investigative work very interesting. I have worked in various capacities of Informaton Technology for 17 years, and would very much enjoy working in the field of computer criminology. My boyfriend is a Homicide Detective for the Detroit Police Department, and has been on "First 48" on a couple of occasions. I find his job very interesting, and he is an extremely hard working Detective. But, it truly saddens me how this Discusison Board will often bash Detroit, calling our police department lazy, incompetent, etc. What most viewers don't realize is that Detroit police are extremely overworked, they are tremendously understaffed, and are very much underpaid thanks to our government officials. Yet, the first jobs to be cut are typically with the police and fire departments, and they are the very last to receive a raise. Unlike other major cities such as Dallas, Memphis, Miami, etc., Detroit has double to triple the caseloads of other major police departments due to the high crime rate in our city. And, contrary to many opinions on this discussion board, there is a higher percentage of resolution than most think. Our police officers find themselves fighting high-tech criminals, and often with low-tech equipment on a daily basis. My boyfriend works extremely hard, and has been known to work in excess of 12 hours/day, several times throughout the week. It saddens him, as well as many other police officials when they are unable to find resolve for families and victims of crime due to the daily bureaucracy they're confronted with, a difficult judicial system, inadquate staffing and equipment, and poor working environments. We have exceptional police officers -- we just don't have enough of them to always get the job done within the "first 48 hours". So the next time you decide to bash Detroit, please think about the barriers in which these overworked men/women are required to work within. But most of all remember, they, too, are human beings with feelings, and want resolve for every single person that has been a victim of crime. Thanks, -- “It takes a deep commitment to change, and an even deeper commitment to grow"
