Detroit Mayor charged w/assault on Fmr First 48 Sgt Joann Kinney

Sgt Joann Kinney made her debut in season one episode 12. She's now retired from the Detroit Police Department. The Mayor of Detroit, Kwame Kilpatrick, has been having numerous problems with the law. The latest brought yesterday (8/8/08) by Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox. Cox charged Kilpatrick with two counts of assaulting or obstructing a police officer in the furtherance of duty, saying he shoved Wayne County Sheriff's Detective Brian White into his partner, JoAnn Kinney, on July 24 as the two were attempting to serve a subpoena on one of the mayor's friends. The felonies each carry a penalty of up to 2 years in prison. White has testified that Kilpatrick got angry and spewed profanities when White and Kinney arrived at the mayor's sister's house in Detroit, looking to serve the court papers on Bobby Ferguson, a contractor and friend of the mayor. White alleged that Kilpatrick stormed out the front door and onto the porch, grabbed him by the shoulders and shoved him into Kinney, knocking both off balance. Kilpatrick's lawyers said the mayor gently escorted White away from the house. Referring to Kilpatrick as "Mr. Mayor," Kinney said the mayor shouted at her: "You, a black woman being with a man with the last name White, you should be ashamed of yourself.
