i couldn't agree more! i think both suffer from an addiction, even though i didn't feel so bad for Gabe. he clearly needs to grow up and get a life, but i do feel bad for him in a way just because he's out of control in this. thats the only reason. i was furious as i watched how he acted towards everyone. i don't believe this was staged at all, and please don't tell me i don't have a clue. that isn't nice.

I dont' know where you got any of your thoughts that this was staged. Your probably used to those great spontaneous American Idol or Survivor shows where they actually re-do scenes that don't go right. This wasn't staged at all. And who is going to hire an actress that is so mentally messed up and high maintenance? Vanessa hasnt' worked in 5 years and I dont' expect anything to change anytime soon. She's not a 25 year old beauty anymore and I think your totally lost on this one. Gabe and his parents deserve eachother. Its' obvious this guy hasnt' worked a real days work in his life and he acts like a spoiled brat that is going to cry until they get him what he wants. These parents are terrible enablers and are part of the problem. He still gambles and they pay his bills. There's no reason for him to change. It was ironic when his parents wouldnt' be involved in the follow up because they knew they were going to ask them about why they didnt' follow through and why they still pay his bills. I guess we know where Gabe got his ability to not take responsibility for his actions. These parents are like a lot of parents who raise such spoiled brats. It's very sad. If this was fake, then Kelly Clarkson and Clay Aikens would be stars without American Idol. Get a clue. -- Edited by 2132jpm at 11/27/2006 1:37 AM

afraid to tell u was a psych nurse for 8yrs dealing with the lowest of the low in the worse times of their lives. i can tell u the people on this show r not real as they still care a true addict does not. dont tell me i dont know what i'm talking about i live in a family that r only able to cope with daily lives thru their various addictions. i have been the nurse manager of a walk in clinic for addiction and psychiatric disorders and i know the level of functioning proposed by these actors is not possible when it comes to a true addict. u want serious try living my life with an addicted son who routinely steals from us takes off for months at a time and constantly engages in self destructive behaviour. live on 3 hrs sleep a night cause u r worried about ur son then go in and work a 12 hr shift where ur responsable for a floor of 40pts and then u little miss sunshine can tell me i dont know what i'm talking about

I can feel sympathy for Vanessa. She has some very real problems with OCD and anxiety or panic attacks. She obviously has some very real medical problems. But Gabe??? 31 and he does not work and relies on his parents? GROW UP AND GET A LIFE.. I SAY!!! I have had my share of problems, like many people, but I would never, ever hope that I would act like him! Some people may say gambling is an addict, yes that is true, but to act like that and treat your family and friends in such a way ?

This is a very real show in every way. I can only say that or believe that because I am a former user. The very raw emotion that comes from some of them can only come from a user. When this series started I was using and pretty heavily. My friend used to call me on Sundays and ask me to watch the show. The show was so real to me that as a fellow addict I could NOT watch the show without being VERY uncomfortable and crying because I knew the pain they were in was the same pain I was in... Just my opinion though....

Wow I couldn't disagree more....Gabe has one of the most intense addictions I have seen on the show, and his parents pain is so obvious. The fight does seem strange but that is because Gabe is strange, he is painfully socially awkward(sp), which isn't that uncommon in genius types, and makes sense given he had a strange childhood, with going to college at 10. as for the shopper, I also felt her pain was very very real, as someone with ocd as well I related a lot to her.
