I'd like to add my thanks to those of PolleePal for the good wishes winging across the seas and oceans to Old England this week. I went into town today to hear the bells ringing to celebrate the end of WWII sixty years ago. It was strange to hear the bells ring out, and see the flag still at half mast for the victims of the bombings in London. They considered cancelling the bellringing, or taking down the flag, but decided to have both. The message was loud and clear. We may be hurt, and we grieve, but life in England goes on. PTP

May I also add my thoughts and good wishes to the people of London and the UK, and particularly to our "cousins" who visit this board. I recently re-read some speeches of one of your most brilliant orators, Sir Winston Churchill, who, as our President Kennedy once remarked, had "mobilized the English language and sent it into battle," and I am poignantly reminded that tragic as yesterdays events are, you as a people have been through worse and endured magnificently. You will do so again. British courage is an inspiration. With respect and affection, Timaran P.S. A small remembrance from your past: "I have, myself, full confidence that if all do their duty, if nothing is neglected, and if the best arrangements are made, as they are being made, we shall prove ourselves once again able to defend our Island home to ride out the storm of war, and to outlive the menace of tyranny... we shall not flag or fail...we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender..." Winston Churchill, June 4, 1940.

Thank you Thalassa. Londoners, and all affected by the attacks, are having a very difficult time just now; but there is a determination not to be cowed by such despicable attacks. It is grim for those who've lost loved ones, and for those badly injured in the blasts. Even those with minor injuries, or who had near misses, must be traumatised by it all. It may be weeks before some of the tube lines are open, but some transport is operating. People are still taking the Tube, riding on the bus etc. London will keep going. Nervous and watchful, yes - but resilient. Cheers, Poll Love like a hobbit

May those who are injured recover quickly, and to those who have lost a family member or friend- stay strong...
