Like mphs48 put it. We all have to sign releases. Nobody puts any pressure on these people to allow the show to air their faces or identity. On the other hand, those are a small number of people that show us their faces. During a Homicide investigation there are many, many people that we contact and they are never shown. Some won't sign a release. The show will ask everyone if they would sign a release. If they don't then they get blurred or don't even get shown. If we were put everyone that we contact on the show then it would take up almost half of the episode just for the interviews. The fans won't get to see that because it really gets old quick. The producers pick the scene that they believe will make the show interesting. On another subject,we literally work very long hours right after responding to a homicide. We go home for just a few short hours and pick it right up as soon as we can. Thank god we have the best families who understand how it works. They make the same sacrifices that we do!! I just wanted to get that in their because we couldn't do this job without them and there wouldn't be a First 48 if it wasn't for the families of the Homicide detectives. I happened to notice this about all of us after watching Tony Mullins and his family and how understanding they were. A shout out to "THE FAMILIES"

A release is signed and if it is a minor then the parent or guardian must sign. My husband and I had to sign a release for both of our daughters to be shown and he also had to sign one for himself.

I agree with everyone here that is why Dog the bounty hunter is being sued now! Remember the episode where dog went to California to get Sammu and and they went on the football field, and they thought the guy was sammu; well Cisco decided to sue. Makes you think that if it were me I would block their faces. And cover my butt.

But that doesnt add up though. For instance the young boy from last night. I dont think he was old enough to sign a release (dont remember how old he was but he looked really young), and at the end of the show it said the police had no suspects in the case which meant the murderers were still at large. Now this kids name and face have been on national tv, whats to stop them from coming back and harming him. In a case like that I would think A & E would cover their behinds and conceal the witnesses identity (in case he does get harmed as a result of the airing and the family wants to sue). To me its asking for trouble. -- Edited by fragalistic1 at 08/18/2006 11:56 AM

As I understand it, anyone whose face is shown has signed a release allowing it. Anyone who does not wish to be shown on the air has his/her face blocked out. I may be wrong, but I believe that is how it works.

i also agree if you watch other shows like on cops or certain news shows they block out their faces and also alter their voices, you would think the lawyers of these shows would say hey lets cover our butts along with the safety of the people who are on the shows -- Edited by first4t8fan at 08/18/2006 10:06 AM

I agree with you. I can beleive that these people would let there faces be seen when helping authorities in a murder case! I live in Miami and I know were these locations are. I see them on TV and know just by seeing a house were it is located. Moreso, I wouldn't even walk the streets of these towns nevertheless rat anyone out. I would be scared to death. -- Edited by monicainlaw at 08/18/2006 9:57 AM

I agree and I not only was wondering that last night but also every single time I watch Dog The Bounty Hunter. They always show the people who give them up. Now, you know as well as I do that they are not going to stay in jail, I am sure they get around to seeing themselves on TV.

Now I love this show but there is something that has been bugging me about it and it was even more blatant last night. How is it that the officers are so careless about releasing the names and faces of the witnesses? Isnt it going to be virtual suicide for some of these people to go back to their neighborhoods afterwards? And dont the witnesses have to sign some kind of release in order to allow A & E to show them on television and if they do who in their right minds would? I just dont get it. By the way that crack about the tennis shoe print database was HILARIOUS!! -- Edited by fragalistic1 at 08/18/2006 7:03 AM
