Unlike some other authors, CS carried only Hornblower through the entire series. As a result, it's hard to argue that Bush is a favorite when he doesn't appear in Midshipman, Atropos or Admiral. While I enjoy the character of William Bush, I identify with Hornblower. He is the main man. And as uHf put it so well, Ioan Grufford is the living embodiment of Hornblower. It's a crime that he has not been allowed to continue to portray the character, one that made him a leading actor and one that is dear to him. Hornblower or Die

No question about it: Hornblower. Hornblower appeals to me on a character level, Ioan Gruffudd appeals to me on a purely hormonal level , and Ioan as Hornblower is perhaps the most inspired bit of casting of a book character ever. The descriptions in the books of Hornblower's physical appearance make Gruffudd a dead ringer for the character and Ioan has demonstrated throughout the series a good understanding of who Hornblower is as a person. -uHf -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "D@mn it, man," said Hornblower, "would anyone out of Bedlam say a thing like that--far less write it?" --Hornblower and the Atropos

Which of the characters in Horatio Hornblower appeals most to you in terms of the mind's-eye picture you may have had, based upon reading? -- -- For every minute you are angry you lose 60 seconds of happiness." --Ralph Waldo Emerson
