Should a paroled killer be allowed to retain custody of his children?

i think that it depends on the case. the only killers that shouuld get out of jail. is the ones that fought in self defense. or the ones who tryed to save someone else life.

That should be an obvious answer but no.

Heeelllloooo! What is wrong with our justice system? A convicted killer should never be paroled, much less raise kids!

A person convicted of premeditated senseless murder should NEVER retain custody, much less visitation with minor children.

I feel it would depend on the circumstances at the time of the murder. People kill for many different reasons, protection of themselves or their families is self defense. If this were the case, then yes, most definately. If they killed just to kill, or during the commission of a robbery, then no. But, as first stated, it should depend on the circumstances.

What it really comes down to is what type of offense a person committed to be branded a "killer". If it was a cold-blooded, pre-meditated act, then maybe the right to have custody should be taken away. But there are always exceptions. What if it was a man whose wife was abusing him and their children? It happens. He gets fed up and kills her to protect himself and the children. or vice versa. It doesn't matter - should that person never be allowed to have rights to their children? What if the person is branded a "killer" by some type of negligent homicide. In my area recently a woman backed up her car to leave and ran over her son. She accidently killed him but is now likely to face felony manslaughter charges. If she is found guilty should we terminate her parental rights? For an accident? I don't think that would be the right decision. I think that this has to be determined by rule of law and a case by case basis. Specter

No I do not believe that a killer should be able to retain custody of their children. It would be the "best interest of the children" and being placed in a known killer's hands would put the children in harm's way.

No, he/she shouldn't ever be able to see his/her children again. They shouldn't have any contact with them. That's what my mom and I think.

I think not. I mean, if this guy/girl killed someone, and can't even be trusted in the community with other innocent people, who would be stupid enough to let them take care of their children. They are chilren, not adults, and need to be with a responsible adult. Not someone accused of murder! Maybe they could get visitation, but not full custody. That is just rediculous!

I think that the circumstances should be considered very carefully.
