Sorry it took so long to reply. We are cleaning our PC as it was running so sloooooow and now is like a new machine. Anyway...

I wrote some of the sellers about this DVD and none of them could give me an answer! Some of them were totally unfamiliar with the movie and obviously just sell DVDs of all kinds and don't personally check into their subject matter. They just rewrite what is provided with the disk. Not one had watched it.

I don't know whether to believe the "400 minute" thing or not. They may just be regurgitating what the BBC had written.

Guess the only thing is to purchase one and watch it. At the worst, I will have done no better then if I bought the A & E version. At best, maybe I will get the BBC one.

I'll go over there now and see what's up. Will keep you posted.

I agree LostHearts, I feel that there is some protectionism going on, on this side on the pond....but that's my opinion....I believe most people would like movies uncut, as they should be seen.

The version that is being offered from ebay, have you found out if is it the original? The A&E one is only 188 minutes long while the BBC version I believe is 233 minutes.....On Amazon.com, I know it's the A&E version the reviews were very good nonetheless..

My brother bought a region 0 player last year because he buys Japanese monster movies from an importer of foreign films. Plus he can speak Japanese. We, of course, don't have to worry about the language difference.

I'm beginning to think a DVD player that can handle any region is a good investment, particularly since a lot of films are chopped up by the time they reach us.

I also checked out the BBC site and it is excellent...I may try to set up my DVD player for region "O" and then order a couple of DVDs from there. Glad to know that they will be as they were originally aired on the BBC and not have scenes completely edited out by A&E(such as The Last King).....

Thanks for the info SevenOfNine....

The BBC website is magnificent! Did you see all the material on the movie? I especially enjoyed the photos of the actors. Also the ability to look at clips of the show. Excellent.

I took the suggestion of the folks from the 'DVD' thread and purchased a DVD I can set to most any region. Then I purchased the BBC version of "Charles II The Power And The Passion".

The BBC runs rings around A & E. Even their website is cooler.

A & E Cutting Scenes

I am about to purchase "The Last King" but I understand that the version shown on A & E has been edited down from that which was on the BBC.

If so, does anyone know where I can get a complete edition? Of course, my machine can only play Region 1, which makes matters difficult.

Some sellers on eBay are offering the Emmy version DVDs--those that are sent to the judges to help them chose nominees and winners. Perhaps that one is the full version?

Any suggestions would be most appreciated!
