Posted by Fnl Fntsy 7: "... I need to know what that song is that Shel sang to Ben, and Ted" That song was the first #1 hit Michael Jackson ever had, when he was 14 years old. It was the theme to the movie "Ben" in 1972, which was a bizarre movie about a socially-underdeveloped guy whose only friend is his pet rat named Ben. What a lot of people found ironic when that movie came out was the fact that a love song about a rodent would end up working so well. Shel refers to the song long before the wedding when he tells Ben in a sarcastic voice something like, "It's no coincidence that YOUR SONG is about a rat!" Still, it fit perfectly into Wedding Wars to refer to the relationship between Ben and Shel. The first verse goes: Ben, the two of us need look no more We both found what we were looking for With a friend to call my own I'll never be alone And you, my friend, will see You've got a friend in me

I think the moment you liked where Maggie said just think in 2 wks. we'll be married was a defining moment in the movie - but so was the scene outside the airport when Eric Dane was trying to convince Maggie he had changed and he mentioned that when he realized that what he wanted to do so much (marry the person he loved) was what he was trying to keep his brother from being able to do. This just seemed like such a non threatening way to make the point about equality. This was such a great movie. I taped it on the DVR and i be I've watched it 5 or 6 times already. Hope A& E offers it for sale on DVD.

Best moment: The movie began... I, too, was ready for cheeze. Surprise !! Watched it twice and loved it! It was smart, wickedly funny and drives home a very important point. My kids enjoyed it as well. Of course, my teenage daughter thinks John Stamos is hot, but then again, who doesn't? Brilliant movie. Got the idea across w/o beating a dead horse and allowing for open, family discussion. We need that here in the land of Rush Limbaugh and Ann (I can't even vote in the right precinct) Coulter

I have to say that I completely agree with you that the moment when Shel sings to Ben and then while he is singing he looks at Ted I have to admit my eyes started to well up, it was a very touching moment in the movie. It was also a very touching moment when Maggie says "Just think...in two weeks from today we'll be married" and Ben replies "I can't wait..." and it shows Shel with a sad expression on his face. That was another moment I almost cried. All in all it was a very good movie with an extremely important message.

I gotta say the best moment is when Ted says to Shel "you hate camping. It'll be cold, there'll be bugs and Heath Ledger won't be coming around to cuddle with you" Excellent to reference another gay movie.

The best moment is when the really bad wedding singer is singing. I came upon this movie by chance, and think it is very funny!

Everything you guys listed was great ... The comment about things in common was great, but I felt the best line was the where Casper Tisdale said, oh no a world without hairdressers, and whatever else he said lol ... because that right there, started the rally, because it gave the gays the courage to stand up with Shel ... I need to know what that song is that Shel sang to Ben, and Ted -- Edited by fnl_fntsy_7 at 12/16/2006 10:08 PM

No the best "line" of the movie is delivered by the TV news announcer when the writer walks off, "And now up next, I'm outta here too, you asswipes." Talk about retributive justice. The words that can't be spoken are being written by the gay writer. -- Edited by David++ at 12/16/2006 5:51 PM

I too have to agree that at the end where Shel sings that song and he then looks at his bf..that was a moment for sure. And the part where she says neither will be having sex with a woman tonight...too funny!

Line I'm stashing for future use, "You and your brother are going to have something in common tonight...neither of you will be having sex with a woman." -- Dum Spiro Spero

Best moment? That's a tough one. It's rare that I sit down and watch a movie, but I loved Wedding Wars. Good movies, like good books, inspire us differently according to our life experience so I suppose I would have to say my best moment was when Shel was talking to his father and said "I wish I hadn't waited so long to come out to you and Mom." To which the father responded, "I'm just sorry you felt you couldn't. You're my son and I love you." Those last words were exactly what I said to my son when he came out. I really love this movie! Oh, my son loved it too.

I expected this movie to be cheezy, but tuned in anyway. What I found was a movie that was so funny, poignant and entertaining that I watched it again (on the later broadcast) with my partner after he came home. To me, the defining moment in the movie was when Shel sings to Ben and his wife: "Ben, the two of us need look no more; We've both found what we've been looking for" (just as he looks over at the man he hopes to marry someday). I admit I got a tear in my eye at that moment, it was so perfect. What was the best moment/line in your opinion? -- Edited by EqualityRocks at 12/12/2006 5:35 PM
