I think they should legalize same sex marriage and unfortuantely it is true the majority gets to dictate the others, and what's not a "right" opinion is not usually defended. You don't control who you fall in love with, and they evidently are still the same person. Some people like apples others like carrots, you know? it's all in for personal preferance.

The reason the majority of voters in the United States of America has so much power is because the nation is an alleged "democracy." The word democracy means "rule of the people," but obviously American government is somewhat different from that. In America, citizens elect representatives and governmental actions through majority, which evinces 1 of the ironic quirks of the nation's government. If you input "democracy" into a dictionary, 1 of the definitions you can find is "rule of the majority." Unfortunately, rule by majority is not always good.

Equal rights for African-Americans would NEVER have been approved by the majority of voters in the 60s, but now most everyone agrees that all men and women deserve equal rights.
Why do equal right for gays have to be subject to the approval of the majority of voters? Equal rights should not be something the majority of approves of. All citizens deserve equal rights, regardless of majority opinion. And the courts have ruled that marriage is a basic human right. Why do we have to have this debate?

I completely agree with you two. John Stamos did an outstanding job and took part in a movie with a very important message. I also think that gay marriage should be made legal so people can be treated equally and not discriminated because of who they love or their sexuality.

I applaud the work of John Stamos and look forward to watching the movie. While I was a student in college, I wrote an essay discussing the philosophical issues raised by same sex marriage. The full source and Web address for that essay is below. Thank you to A&E for some meaningful film work.
